a ruined generation

Hi bears,
I watched "the 300" on HBO the other night and it struck me that in its grisly realistic depiction of war as it was for 100's of years, one on one, personal murder with disembowelment, stabbing, decapitation, gory and bloody, it was much more honorable than the cold-blooded bombing and automatic weapon killing of today.  Our cousins the chimps are more civilized in their murderous mayhem of one another for territory and food.  Last year 113 US servicemen from the war in Iraq committed suicide after 100 the year before. Obviously killing, particularly of civilians takes its toll on our young people.  past experience shows that it will get worse with time and return to home.  Besides the horrible loss of 1000's of lives and the mangled bodies of tens of 1000's more, there will be the mental anguish and disabilities of a generation of young people all because rich old white men wanted to get richer and play army with other people's lives.

Hi Bill: Doug has a good friend here on the poker circuit from TN. He is now here in Vegas for the WSOP. His roommate at the New Orleans circuit event back last month in May was a Iraq vet. (He was sent over twice) He went home from New Orleans and committed suicide. Doug's friend had no idea he was even suicidal!! He now wears a Marines hat to the tournaments to remember the passing of his friend. Sad isn't it? There have been roughly 4000 deaths "and counting" of our soldiers in this mistake of a war, but there are uncounted "casualties" that will never be known.
